Become a key member of Oracle's AI Innovation team as a Senior Applied Scientist. This is a distinctive opportunity to shape the future of AI infrastructure at scale, utilizing your expert knowledge to translate intricate model training and serving requirements into actionable insights that help steer strategic investments in our offerings.

Your role will entail a thorough understanding of machine learning techniques with a focus on foundation model evaluation, traditional NLP/CV metrics, human assessments, confidence estimation, and agentive and RAG application evaluations. As a leader in innovative research, you will create production-ready technology that seamlessly integrates into our products.

Key responsibilities include conducting detailed assessments on large language models and related systems, designing effective benchmarks to measure quality, latency, cost, and reliability in real-world scenarios. You will also have the chance to prototype advanced training and inference methods while executing large-scale experiments that reveal critical scaling behaviors and efficiency challenges.

A PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Linguistics, or a related discipline with a focus on machine learning techniques is preferred. However, candidates with a Master's or Bachelor's degree and relevant experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Research and Development: Conduct thorough research on foundation model evaluation and develop production-ready code to facilitate the transition of POC applications to engineering teams.
• Collaboration: Work closely with diverse teams to integrate evaluation capabilities across our varied product landscape.
• Innovation: Identify and propose new evaluation opportunities while exploring cutting-edge technologies.
• Industry Awareness: Stay informed on the latest trends and advancements in evaluation technologies.

Qualifications and Experience:

• PhD in a relevant field with a focus on machine learning, or equivalent experience with additional years of relevant work.
• A strong publication record, ideally as a lead author or reviewer in top-tier journals.
• Extensive expertise in generative AI, model evaluation, and performance metrics.
• A deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and architectures.
• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $139,400 to $291,800 per annum, with eligibility for bonuses and equity.
