As a Cybersecurity Defense Engineer, you will collaborate with Red Team and Cybersecurity experts to bolster cyber readiness and system accreditation efforts.
Note: This position is contingent upon the award of a contract expected in May 2026.
Clearance: An ACTIVE Secret clearance (IT Level II Tier 5/Special-Sensitive Position) is mandatory for this role. Selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and may need to meet specific eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. Citizenship is necessary for clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute system hardening across various Operating System (OS) platforms.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate system and network security stance according to DoD cybersecurity policies and tools.
- Utilize MITRE ATT&CK and/or MITRE D3FEND frameworks to enhance threat detection and incident response strategies.
- Conduct in-depth threat intelligence analyses to identify emerging threats and provide actionable recommendations.
- Perform vulnerability assessments using Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) and other security tools.
- Evaluate vulnerability reports and formulate detailed remediation plans.
- Address vulnerability findings through the implementation of vendor patches and configuring both Linux and Windows operating systems.
- Design, implement, and enforce robust security controls spanning network, hardware, and software components.
Essential Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of computer security, military system specifications, and DoD cybersecurity directives.
- Exceptional communication skills for both written reports and oral presentations.
Preferred Experience:
A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience encompassing:
- System hardening across multiple OS platforms.
- Network and virtualization expertise.
- Application of DoD cybersecurity protocols and tools.
- Familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK or MITRE D3FEND frameworks.
- Threat intelligence assessment and threat identification.
- Conducting vulnerability assessments with ACAS.
- Remediating vulnerabilities through patch implementation on both Linux and Windows OS.
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining security controls across various systems.
Certifications: Candidates must hold one of the following DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level III baseline certifications:
- CASP+ CE
- CCNP Security
- CISA
- CISSP (Associate)
- CISSP
- GCED
- GCIH
- CCSP
Education: A Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering is required.
Compensation: Compensation at SimVentions is competitive and will be determined based on factors including experience, education, security clearance, location, and other skills. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $100,000 - $160,000, reflecting the standard range for this role and part of a comprehensive compensation package.
