Sr Data Engineer (MFT - IBM Sterling)

A Day in the Life

The IBM Sterling Senior MFT Engineer will provide advanced expertise in Sterling B2B Integrator, Sterling File Gateway, Sterling Secure Proxy, and Control Center. This role requires expert-level knowledge of these technologies and provides third-level support for core hardware, software, data, and infrastructure components within the B2B integration team.

The position focuses on middleware infrastructure, enterprise data movement, automation, and continuous improvement within a mission-critical, multi-site enterprise environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, drives transformation, and delivers high-quality, scalable integration solutions.

The expected starting salary is approximately $135,000 and will be commensurate with experience.

What You’ll Do

Technical Leadership

• Communicate with internal and external business users regarding Sterling Integrator mappings.
• Modify and enhance existing partner integrations to meet evolving business requirements.
• Design, develop, and implement enterprise integration solutions aligned with standards and processes.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex system issues, restore services, and perform root cause analysis.
• Facilitate architectural design reviews and governance approvals as required.
• Maintain strong awareness of security requirements related to Sterling environments and integrations.

Innovative Infrastructure & Problem Solving

• Drive engineering excellence by simplifying, optimizing, and automating processes and workflows.
• Develop automation solutions using scripting tools such as Ansible, Python, Bash, or Java.

Teamwork & Communication

• Build and support high-performing teams through collaboration and mentorship.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
• Provide timely updates on incidents and project progress.
• Create and review high-quality technical documentation.

Control & Audit

• Ensure workstation configurations, processes, and procedures comply with organizational standards.

Continuous Improvement

• Promote a best-practice sharing culture focused on service improvement and innovation.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of IT experience.
• 4+ years of experience with Sterling B2B Integrator, Sterling File Gateway, and PCM (preferred).
• 3+ years of experience with automation scripting (Ansible, Python, Bash, Java).
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design effective, scalable solutions.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Travel, transportation, or hospitality industry experience preferred.
• Experience designing application data models for mobile or web applications preferred.
• Flexibility to support scheduling needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
