Position Summary
The Staff Software Development Engineer is a senior technical leader within the Developer Experience (DevEx) organization. This role is responsible for the development, operations, and support of web-based tooling and platforms that empower CVS Health engineers. You will partner closely with DevEx leaders and enterprise stakeholders to align technical investments with strategic goals.
This role defines the technical vision and architecture for an AI-assisted, least-privilege access platform, translating access governance objectives into scalable, secure, and developer-centric solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Architecture & Design
- Own the end-to-end architecture of the AI-assisted access model, ensuring scalability, explainability, and auditability.
- Partner with data and security teams to validate signal quality and model outcomes.
Platform Engineering & Integration
- Establish clear APIs and automation workflows.
- Enable continuous access evaluation and lifecycle management.
Security, Governance & Compliance
- Embed auditability, explainability, and policy enforcement into the platform by design.
- Collaborate with security, risk, and compliance stakeholders to meet governance requirements while maintaining developer velocity.
Technical Leadership & Influence
- Serve as a technical authority and mentor to junior engineers.
- Drive engineering best practices, design reviews, and architectural standards.
- Align cross-functional teams across security, identity, platform, and developer experience domains.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of large-scale software development experience, including 2+ years in a technical lead role.
- 7+ years of experience developing web services and cloud-native applications using technologies such as Java, React, Angular, Spring Boot, REST APIs, JPA, and messaging systems.
- 5+ years of experience with Agile development practices.
- 2+ years of experience developing agentic AI applications using foundational LLMs in Python.
- 2+ years of experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years designing and developing scalable microservices and REST APIs.
- 5+ years of experience in Test-Driven Development environments.
- 3+ years of experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or CircleCI.
- 3+ years of experience with source control platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.
- 3+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- 3+ years of experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, GCP, or AWS.
- Experience with accessibility (A11y) standards and web performance best practices.
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent work experience (High School diploma plus 4 years of relevant experience).
Compensation
The typical pay range for this role is $106,605.00 - $284,280.00. Actual compensation will depend on experience, education, geographic location, and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for bonus or short-term incentive programs and includes an equity award target.
