Position Summary
Vizio pioneered streaming to the TV and continues to innovate and lead the industry. We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer for our TV platforms, specializing in native application development to help develop and maintain Vizio’s core operating environment. This role contributes extensively to embedded UI/UX development, algorithm implementation for complex features, and underlying architecture improvements.
You will work closely with product management to develop new features and enhance existing functionality using modern native JavaScript and integrating third-party applications. You will also contribute to building tools that support the broader Vizio development community. A proven track record of shipping high-quality software on embedded platforms is essential.
This is an onsite role based in Dallas, TX (5 days per week).
What You'll Do
- Build and own RESTful backend services and APIs supporting video upload workflows, catalog ingestion, and client-server integration.
- Design and implement data models and persistence layers using relational or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB).
- Develop workflow engines for approvals, user permissions, and asset tracking.
- Integrate third-party catalog providers and external APIs.
- Implement caching strategies (Redis or similar) and performance optimizations.
- Instrument services for logging, monitoring, and alerting to ensure availability and observability.
- Collaborate with front-end engineers to define APIs and deliver seamless end-to-end workflows.
- Build responsive web interfaces using Angular or React with modular component architecture.
- Implement state management, routing, and databinding for scalable single-page applications.
- Ensure consistency, accessibility, and performance using internal UI frameworks.
- Optimize rendering performance and page load times.
- Participate in end-to-end debugging across browser and API layers.
- Contribute to unit and integration testing (Jest, Jasmine, Karma, Cypress).
- Support CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins/Azure DevOps).
- Demonstrate ownership from requirements through release.
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years of professional software development experience with strong backend focus and full-stack exposure.
- Expertise in backend technologies such as Python or .NET Core (C#).
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design and versioning.
- Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases including schema design and optimization.
- Familiarity with caching strategies and asynchronous data processing.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization standards (OAuth2, JWT).
- Experience debugging and optimizing backend performance.
- Front-end proficiency with Angular (v10+) or React (hooks-based), including TypeScript and state management.
- Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, modern JavaScript/TypeScript, and build tools.
- Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs.
- Knowledge of responsive design, accessibility standards, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset.
Nice to Have
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- Experience with media or content delivery systems and video-on-demand platforms.
- Experience with upload workflows, metadata validation, or asset management systems.
- Experience building internal developer tools or workflow consoles.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience; OR
- 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year of experience.
- Experience implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and accessibility best practices.
